deep thoughts today

Today has been filled with tears, prayer, conviction and peace. As I have been dwelling on my other blog FASHIONMODESTY, thinking up ideas, pondering on topics and searching out other women’s’ ideas I have come across a lot about modesty. What a loaded word for Christian women! It goes from some women feeling their bodies are a gift from God and that flaunting and revealing that body is appreciating His creation, to other women wearing long-sleeved, ankle length dresses in plain colours accompanied with matching head dresses.

I sat before the Lord today and meditated on modesty. Why do we wear what we do? Why do we style our hair or adorn certain types of jewelery? This is where I felt the Lord settle in me a peace. I do respect the ladies who feel that out of submission to their God and their husbands they cover the majority of their bodies when in public but ultimately I feel…and notice this is my opinion and therefore if you are questioning this you must search it out for yourself…that I must go before the Lord with my outfits and changes in hairstyle to truly search out my motives. Am I desiring to draw the attention of other men, or turn hearts away from God and onto my fashion style? Am I trying to compete with other women and make sure I am better dressed, better designed and ensuring I have everyone’s attention and not others?

If any of the above are true I have a heart motive that is undesirable to the Lord and therefore harmful to those around me as well as to my own walk with the most precious One in my life. And it is more then my clothes that need to be changed.

As young or old women in this culture we truly lack role models of modesty and this may make it difficult to find the line in your life that the Lord is calling you to uphold. But trust that you are His and He will give you peace and a release to wear things and express yourself in Him. He does need to be the one you are reflecting and if you have any doubts then just change.

A great check I find is asking my husband. Once I have confirmed that my main checks are ok, cleavage bending over, midriff with arms up, back with bending down and butt that pants are not painted on I ask him if he is alright with my clothes. Knowing he loves me, loves the Lord, understands my love of design and creativity and also being a man himself I find he is the perfect test. He has rarely questioned anything and hey if you have no husband or boyfriend that is trustworthy (wanting you to wear something revealing to show you off) then try your Dad :) He was a young man once and will give you an honest answer if you are ready to hear it.

Be honest with your heart’s women. If you really do care then you will feel the unrest with certain items and be confident in your beautiful modesty.

  1. You’re right, there are many different opinions on modesty, and you really do have to seek out the Lord for your individual situation.

It’s great that there are husbands and fathers out there that care about protecting the women in their lives, isn’t it?

  2. Thank you for reading and taking the time to comment.

I agree that having truthful men in our lives is such a blessing! Many of us who have these men take them for granted, I know I have.

Ultimately though I do agree that the Lord has the final say on matters of clothing and He above all else has the utmost best of intentions! The great thing is He does not ask us to sacrifice our God-given creativity, in fact He calls us to use it for His glory!

Thanks again and have a great day!

  3. Exactly. Many people believe that borders hinder freedom, but having borders gives freedom. It defines where things begin and end, and helps to focus the creative spirit!
